Frequently asked questions
We have a meeting coming up that we’ll need a translator for. Can you help us?
What you’re looking for is an interpreter, and I don’t provide interpretation services. Translators and interpreters both convert meaning from one language to another, but there is a major difference between the two professions: Translators translate written words (websites, contracts, user manuals, etc.), whereas interpreters translate spoken words (meetings, courtroom proceedings, etc.).
What file types do you work with?
The preferred file type is DOC or DOCX. PPTX and XLSX files are fine as well, although in rare cases, there could be a formatting surcharge. PDFs sometimes cooperate and sometimes do not – simply contact me, and we will work together to find a solution.
How is payment handled?
For non-US clients, I can accept SEPA/IBAN and SWIFT/BIC payments via bank transfer in EUR, CHF, and several other currencies. For US clients, a mailed check or ACH deposit is preferred, but PayPal is an option.
Can you work with my style guide?
Of course! And if you don’t have an in-house style guide, I will apply the Chicago Manual of Style (technical) or the AMA Manual of Style (medical) unless you specify otherwise.
Do you use inclusive language?
You as the customer dictate the style of the translation. Gender-neutral and people-first language are no problem – let’s discuss it at the outset so the final product has the terminology you’re looking for.
What is your native language?
I am a native speaker of standard US English.
